You don\u2019t need to climb it to enjoy it, though the bold can hike the demanding trail to the North Peak, a multi-hour trek that starts in La Estanzuela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For something calmer, <strong>Parque Fundidora<\/strong> is a must. A former giant steel foundry is now a huge park with museums, a lake, bike paths and the old furnaces preserved as industrial heritage. Next to it, <strong>Barrio Antiguo<\/strong> and its cobbled streets and 19th-century houses turn into caf\u00e9s and galleries by day and the city\u2019s live-music and bar district by night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"La_Huasteca_Garcia_Caves_and_Santiago\"><\/span>La Huasteca, Garc\u00eda Caves and Santiago<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Half an hour west, in Santa Catarina, <strong>Parque La Huasteca<\/strong> opens a canyon of sheer rock walls that look otherworldly; it\u2019s a rock-climbing mecca and a spectacular stop even if you only came for photos. To the northwest, in Garc\u00eda, the <strong>Grutas de Garc\u00eda<\/strong> caves are reached by cable car and hold formations millions of years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To the south, the Magic Town of <strong>Santiago<\/strong> is the classic day trip: its colorful plaza, the Boca dam and, a little higher up, the <strong>Cola de Caballo (Horsetail) Waterfall<\/strong>, a 25-meter cascade surrounded by trails. But the real local religion is <strong>carne asada<\/strong>: thick cuts, arrachera, machitos and the essential salsa.
